Nestled in a cozy cottage in Petit Etang, where the village of Cheticamp meanders into the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, you will find the shop "Proud to be Lola's Hookers".
As you step from the wrap-around porch into the shop, you'll be warmly greeted by the lady herself... Lola. At the heart of the shop, Lola is quick to greet you with a smile and is more than willing to explain the intricacies of this age-old local craft of rug hooking.
A feast for the senses will surround you as you enter the shop with rugs large, small, and every size in between hung throughout.
In a world of shifting values, it's truly wonderful to connect with a tradition so peaceful and serene, and yet productive.
Each rug in the shop is handmade by local artisans. When purchasing a rug, the name of each artist is included. With so many of our artisans aging into their 70's, 80's, and 90's, our mission is to help to re-establish our craft so that future generations will be able to enjoy the simple pleasures of rug hooking.
